The confectionery trade fair ISM in Cologne is an important meeting point for the industry to deepen existing contacts and to get to know new products.

That is why we as REWE Group will be there and use it to exchange ideas with the food industry - in search of innovations and impulses for our business.

In doing so, we trust in the professionalism and competence of the Cologne trade fair: with a responsible corona protection concept, it will ensure optimal safety for all visitors.

Our member companies from the food trade and craft have already networked with their customers and suppliers in a variety of ways. Virtual meetings enjoy great popularity due to their flexibility and efficiency. However, the only thing that still surpasses this type of communication is personal meetings. Only in this way can the whole person be grasped, only in this way can trust be created and close and lasting relationships be built. All the more reason why many medium-sized entrepreneurs and their employees look forward with expectant joy to the next ISM, where they not only expect product innovations, but also want to meet exciting business partners in person.

Over the years, ISM has continuously proven its exceptional international position as a worldwide platform for the confectionery trade and can make a significant contribution in these turbulent times. Especially now it is important to meet again on a personal level and to exchange ideas. This is the only way to create trustful cooperation and long-term partnerships.

ISM is the place to be when it comes to confectionery and snacks. Even in times of C19 our industry needs inspiration and networking to cope with this demanding situation – probably more than ever.

ISM Cologne is a very important event for ESMA and acts as our annual platform for meetings with current business partners, seeking out new business partners from across the thousands of top-class exhibitors who exhibit at ISM, seeking out new and innovative products or brands, availing of the opportunity to attract new business partners as an Exhibitor, gaining valuable knowledge of Global Consumer trends and attending the ESMA Chill-out Networking social event which is hosted through the support of the Koelnmesse Team.

ISM regularly offers a comprehensive overview of current trends and the most important developments in the market. Therefore we would be very pleased to visit ISM 2021 on-site, if the general conditions allow it. We also trust that the organisers will do everything possible to ensure the health and safety of the participants.

The 50th ISM in 2020 was the last international confectionery fair before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The medium-sized confectionery industry is suffering globally from the consequences of the pandemic. We therefore hope that ISM 2021 will open the door for better times and a strengthening of the international confectionery trade. Who better to do this than the most important international confectionery exhibition?

The ISM is the largest and most important confectionery trade fair in the world. It offers the ideal forum to present assortments, concepts and philosophies around the sweet product world to dealers from all over the world. It is also a platform for manufacturers, retailers, agencies and consultants from the confectionery industry to meet. Especially this personal exchange of experiences cannot be replaced by anything else and cannot be done virtually. I believe that especially at the beginning of next year it will be particularly important to set an example that a normal economic life based on human encounters can and must take place again.

ISM Stakeholder: Andrea Kurtz, Head of Berlin Office, Lebensmittel Praxis Trade Magazine

Andrea Kurtz, Head of Berlin Office, Lebensmittel Praxis Trade Magazine

At the beginning of every year, ISM is the first important major event for the confectionery industry - and therefore for Lebensmittel Praxis the opportunity to sound out topics and trends of the year in exchange with companies from both Germany and abroad. This includes new product ideas and the planned seasonal highlights, but also questions about raw materials, world market prices, certifications, sustainable measures or logistics. In addition, we are increasingly focusing on marketing and (new) packaging measures. This catalogue of questions will be further intensified in 2021 by the consequences of the Corona pandemic - and we look very much forward to entering into personal dialogue with the companies again after this difficult year.

We, as EMD and thus one of the leading European buying alliances, attend the ISM regularly and traditionally. As Director Branded Products responsible for all international confectionery producers, I am also optimistic about the trade fair in 2021. We use the fair as a meeting point for the exchange of information between our members (German, Italian, Swedish, Russian, Spanish, Dutch, Greek TOP trading companies) as well as for observing trends and new products. Discussions with confectionery producers at the stand are also an integral part of the fair.

Of course the current situation around the Covid 19 virus has some risks, I am aware of that and will adjust my members to it. Nevertheless, I trust in the professionalism of Koelnmesse to take appropriate and effective precautions. Therefore it means a lot to me to visit the ISM also in 2021 and to encourage this readiness also within the EMD members.

"Whether furniture stores, food retailers or DIY stores, trade fairs are of great importance for our primarily medium-sized member companies. They not only provide an overview of the latest trends and products, but also present pioneering, future-oriented developments of the industry. As an umbrella organisation of the German retail trade, we are convinced that trade fairs can be an important catalyst for prompting a business restart in challenging times like these. As a professional trade fair organiser, Koelnmesse provides important impulses for the respective industries with events like imm, ISM, EISENWARENMESSE - International Hardware Fair Cologne, spoga+gafa or h+h and offers additional possibilities for establishing contacts and networking with new digital concepts. Extensive measures for the protection of trade fair participants provide us with reasons to be optimistic that trade fairs can also take place safely in 2021 under corona conditions."
